Event: Fresno Writers Live with Larissa Mercado-López

The Fresno State Creative Writing Alumni Chapter presented Fresno Writers Live, a virtual reading to celebrate the bilingual children’s book “Esteban de Luna, Baby Rescuer! / Esteban de Luna, ¡Rescatador de bebés!” from Fresno writer Larissa Mercado-López.

In partnership with Fresno State’s Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, in celebration of National Hispanic/Latinx Histories Month.

Time: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Location: Zoom Room

Admission was $5, and advance registration was required. All proceeds were split 50/50 between the chapter and the author.

Books are for sale from the author’s preferred bookseller, Arte Publico Press.

A Texas native and the mother of four children, author Larissa Mercado-López is an associate professor in the Department of Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Fresno State. She received her doctorate in English/Latina literature from the University of Texas as San Antonio. Her debut book for children, “Esteban de Luna, Baby Rescuer! / Esteban de Luna, ¡Rescatador de bebés!” was published in 2017 on the Piñata Books imprint of Arte Publico Press.

With Laura Alamillo and Cristina Herrera, Dr. Mercado-López co-edited the anthology “Voices of Resistance: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Chican@ Children’s Literature” (2017, Rowman & Littlefield). And with Cristina Herrera, she co-edited the anthology “(Re)mapping the Latina/o Literary Landscape” (2016, Palgrave Macmillan).
